tried to hide the truth from Paul; he lived in denial and worried much. Paul
spoke to Monica about it but she only shrugged it was work that made Jerry
depressed. Paul watched closely and noticed Elfrider was more delightful than
ever. She neither spoke to nor came close to Jerry, but she seemed to be in
control.
