Poem for the Day - Ladybird

Pretty and slauch
In her own pretty way
She helps heal a haunch
Mostly everyday
With her colours so bright
Causing all to smile
Her looks so tight
Leaves stares a while

Poem for the Day - Gold Fish

Shiny as the stars
Treasured by all
Shimmering for all to desire
Truth remains
And will remain
Trapped in a jar
Imprisoned for show
Desire to be free

Poem for the Day - Bees

Rare to be kept
Everyone varies
Not everyone's favorite pet
Always thoughts of stinging
There is good in all
Even the dangerous
When we get to know
The person behind
The sting

Poem for the Day - Gerbil

Day like any other
Trek live every other
Little excitement
When we met

Ball of dust we thought
Till it came close and fought
Our gerbil we gave home
So it would never roam

Poem for the Day - Foxes

Live among us
Act like us
Not like us
Never like us
Wish to be us
Can't be us
They will never be us
Foxes they are not us

Poem for the Day - Scorpions

They come in threats
Like humans with powers
And make all sweat
Till drenched in rain showers

Black and brown
Existing as they please
Causing all to frown
Without anyone to tease

Poem for the Day - Rodents

Pests they are
Valuable to others
How could one compare from afar
As precious as mothers
Seeming to care less
Working for their best
But nevertheless
They always stand life's test

Poem for the Day - Parrot

Adorable we thought
So hard he fought
To stay alive
And a will to live
Just a parrot
Colored like a carrot
We loved him
Our days stayed dim
Until he grew better

Life we’ll cherish ever

Poem for the Day - Geckos

Not a lizard
But always felt like one
If there was a wizard
Then we would need a wand

If wishes came true
Then all would be well
For all crew
Would have a story to tell

Poem for the Day - Parakeet

Days grew by
And she wonder
Gone were the days of hi
Here are the days she pondered

Life like a parakeet
Wonderfully colourful
And the thought of Pete
Made her miss him in full

Poem for the Day - Ferret

He wore a berret
Just like a ferret
Beauty it was
Till he went on a bus

He knew it too
That day so fine and cool
His heart she'd admire
Until when they retire

Poem for the Day - Guinea Pig

Just like a lab rat
Confined in a glass
Thought I was royalty
Until used for experiments

Freedom for all
All Guinea Pigs
That one day
We experiment on humans

Poem for the Day - Fish

Dreams to be like one
And dream came alive
With challenges faced
Deep in the water
Wishing my dreams
Never came alive
And they never did

Waking up with delight

Poem for the Day - Lizard

Like a daily job
He rises to observe
Nodding in approval
Content like none other
The world is well
For the lizard

Poem for the Day - Snake

Friend he could be
Too sly for all
Not even animal friends
Shows much distrust
Familiar with humans
Living alone
Experiencing no love
Showing none either
In this sweet world
We all live in

Poem for the Day - Bird

Soaring high
Wishing I could too
So far away
Remain my thoughts
As the bird in the sky

Thinking high
All I can do
Is find a way
To wipe the hurts
Be a bird and fly

Poem for the Day - Frogs

Damp day
Cold night
All we could hear
Was the croak of frogs

Flat we lay
On mats free of thread
Till we understood
The frogs chant of love

Poem for the Day - Tortoises

Slow as can be
They say wise they are
Like tortoises’ we could be
Knowing what to do
In every aspect
Without stress of brain
If actually true
They were wise

Focus of the Day - Pushpa Basnet

Pushpa Basnet did not see the wrong things around her and ignore them like a lot of us do. She made a move, made an impact and changed lives. We do not realize the impact we make when we go to the extreme to help and save people.

There is need for change and it starts with you.

Poem for the Day - Dogs

Naturally sweet
Heavenly made
To love unconditional
Becoming man’s only

Very best friend

Focus of the Day - Natalie Warne

Being visible and making an impact to save people whom you may never meet in life or may never have anything to do with you was what Natalie Warne did. At eighteen, she decided to become involved in helping out children in Uganda; a place she is not from and people she did not know. But she did know everyone had the right to freedom, leading a campaign which successfully made positive impact.

Poem for the Day - Ants

Small and active
Mass and dedicated
Flowing through life
Disciplined in nature
Like ants
All could be
If only they tried
The world a better place
Would be and remain

Just as the ants

Focus of the Day - Aki Ra

It takes a great person not to compromise especially when it comes to his beliefs and future.  Aki Ra, a child soldier found himself in an awkward situation and did not compromise. We are all in need of one thing or the other in life and we find ourselves in situations where we need to compromise but we need to stand firm, remember people like Aki Ra and live by our name and word.

Poem for the Day - Worms

Not just animals
Can be humans too
Needed sometimes
Unwanted most times
The animal can be beneficial
The human annoying
Together they still remain worms

Focus of the Day - Om Prakash Gurjar

To set a mark means to do something remarkable for the benefit of others. Om Prakash Gurjar achieved this by thinking of the children around him and not thinking selfishly of how to make life better for himself alone.

We need to put aside ‘self’ and embrace the freedom and rights of others. It may seem hard but anything and everything is possible.

Poem for the Day - Cats

Curious cats
Sneaking past
Until caught
And made as pets

Curious cats
Sometimes smart
Hiding in corners
Till the coast was there’s

Curious cats
Forever loved
Always too shy
To show love in return

Focus of the Day - Thandiwe Chama

When people remain silent like the crowd, they become thee crowd. When you realize you deserve more than you get but do nothing about it, you get nothing. Thandiwe Chama was not one of the many, she singled herself out from the crowd and made her voice heard, went through struggle to get educated and helped many like her in the process.

This was for a good course and because of her, many are educated today through her boldness and bravery. What stand are you willing to make for yourself, the community and the unborn generation? There are still many changes left to be made.

Poem for the Day - Chameleon

Like a spy
He moves
Blending with all
Undetected to none
But only one
One knows he exists
The chameleon alone

Focus of the Day - Iqbal Masih

There is always someone to pay the price for others to be saved. Iqbal Masih went through so much suffering for the future of other children to be made right. He stood against child labor and succeeded in reducing it to a great extent. What bothers our society that we stand against and make an impact? Not necessarily with the use of rallies and protests but with scribbled writings and comments and contributions, we could save a life.

Poem for the Day - Mouse

Unaccepted among many
Tendered by few
A pest to some
A pet to few
Hunted as foe
Housed as family
Different views
Same animal

Focus of the Day - Nkosi Johnson

Mature at an early age to be bold enough to speak to the public about the need of acceptance of HIV carriers in the world is what Nkosi Johnson did and that brought him to the limelight. He may not have lived long but he made the impact he could. If he could change his destiny of not being born with HIV, he would have. But like many of us, we cannot change our destinies but live with it.

Poem for the Day - Rabbit

In a funny way
With a funny care
They stay faithful

Just as they dare

Focus of the Day - Hector Pieterson

Not just another student who was interested in the freedom the youths and the people, but a pace setter for others to enjoy peace. It is a wonder people must die so that others can be saved and for the sake of peace. Before peace must reign, there must be war. Hector is remembered not just among the youths of South Africa, but among youths around the world who protest for world peace.

Poem for the Day - Chinchilla

Innocent eyes
Pure mind
Wish all humans
Could be like you

Staring sweetly
Thinking deeply
Of life
In its purest form

Focus of the Day - Anne Frank

It is a good thing when you find people keeping records, notes, diaries and journals. These often come in handy. Anne Frank was an example of a good diary keeper; covering the experiences she faced during the holocaust.

Her diary survived but she did not and it still lives through movies and books till this day. You can live forever through your writings as long as you write the truth.

Poem for the Day - Horses

In mass they came
No one knew where from
Frightened they seemed
A mission they had
To save one
And united they were
Like a family
For a family they were
Galloping like heroes

Focus of the Day - Samantha Smith

It is not how long you live but how well. This statement describes the life of Samantha Smith and how meaningful her life was to many. Only thirteen years on earth, she was described as an Ambassador of Goodwill.

A child of peace, being a peace activist; self confident and educated without fear to write a letter which made an impact and a book which made meaningful sense and enlightenment to many. Young people have made impacts in the past, many still do. Our role is to encourage them since we only live once.

Poem for the Day - Hamster

Missing us like a person
Spending all summer away
Feeding on dust
Accompanied by loneliness
If hamsters could talk
Ours would
And the excitement
On our return
Proved one thing
We were loved
By a hamster
